Star Cruises, founded in 1993, is the third-largest cruise operator in the world. This is largely due to the fact that they are (since 2000) 50% owners of Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL). Star Cruises currently operates 5 cruise ships, in addition to the 11 ships in the NCL fleet.
The Star Cruises fleet itself focuses on cruises in the Asia-Pacific regions of the world. Their ships are among the best in their marketplace, and they offer a great (1:2) crew-to-passenger ratio onboard their vessels. One of the more unique aspects of a Star Cruises cruise is that they have a "No Tipping" policy, meaning that you're not charged for any gratuities during your cruise and you're not expected to tip any of the staff members.
Star Cruises' relation to Norwegian Cruise Line is quite evident when looking at their ships. SuperStar Virgo is actually the sister ship of NCL's Norwegian Spirit (formerly named SuperStar Leo, when she was a part of the Star Cruises fleet). SuperStar Aquarius (a member of the Star Cruises fleet since 2007) is actually a former member of the NCL cruise fleet, during which she was named Norwegian Wind. SuperStar Libra (a part of Star Cruises since 2005) joined NCL's fleet back in 1988, and was then named Seaward (later renamed Norwegian Sea).
As mentioned above, Star Cruises exclusively features cruises throughout the Asia-Pacific region of the world. The four main destination classifications offered by them are: Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore and Hong Kong.
The Star Cruises ships features a nice range of accommodations onboard their ships. From basic interior staterooms to large suites, there's something for everyone. Guests staying in suites benefit from priority check-in and are accompanied onboard by a Guest Services staff member while their luggage is sent directly to their stateroom.
Up to 6 meals a day are available on a Star Cruises ship, meaning that you should be able to get enough eating opportunities. There are alternative restaurants onboard Star Cruises' ships, including the Taj. Such restaurants are available at an additional charge. Room service (specifically, breakfast and snacks) is available throughout the day, for a nominal charge.
Among the entertainment options available onboard each Star Cruises' ship are live cabaret shows, karaoke, discos, video games, deck games and card rooms. There is also a gym onboard each of their ships, to allow you to burn off those calories you took on during your (usually numerous) meals. A Jacuzzi, swimming pool, and basketball court can also be found on their ships. Select vessels also have a children's pool.
Also onboard each Star Cruises' ship is a photo gallery, where you can purchase the various photos that are taken of you (by the ship's photo staff) during your cruise, as well as duty-free boutiques. Smoking is allowed on open decks and designated public areas only.
Those with children often ask if there are baby-sitting services available on a Star Cruises cruise. Well, they should be happy to know that such services are available (at a nominal charge).
The crew onboard each ship in the Star Cruises fleet is multi-lingual. All of the staff speaks English, but many other languages are spoken (since the Star Cruises crew is composed of people from over 40 nations).
