Overview
The 132-guest Prince Albert II, an expedition ship, is the newest member of the Silversea cruise fleet. She was previously named World Discoverer, while a part of (the now out of business) Society Expeditions. After acquiring her Silversea fully refurbished her, creating a unique addition to their fleet. Silversea uses her to take guests on very unique itineraries, such as Antarctica and the South Pacific.

Some of the more popular onboard amenities available on Prince Albert II include a spa, beauty salon, fitness center, sauna, two whirlpools and an internet cafe. With a crew to guest ratio of nearly 1 to 1, you're sure to get the high level of personal service expected on an ultra-luxury cruise line like Silversea. That in combination with gourmet cuisine, complimentary fine wines, champagnes and spirits, as well as gratuities being included results in an excellent offering in the cruising industry. Guests sailing onboard Prince Albert II even get a complimentary water-resistant backpack, as well as a complimentary parka with layering system (on Antarctic voyages only).

Destinations & Itineraries
Prince Albert II will be featuring cruises in the following regions (subject to change, based on the cruise line's discretion):

2010: Antarctica & South America; Northern Europe, Western Europe
2011: Antarctica

Staterooms

All of the staterooms onboard the Prince Albert II have an ocean view, private bath, Pommery Champagne upon arrival, fresh fruit and flower, beverage cabinet stocked to your preference, European bath amenities, fine bed linens, premium mattresses, choice of pillow, plush robes and slippers, personalized stationary, expedition binoculars, hair dryer, direct-dial telephone, WiFi Internet access (at a fee), Flat screen TV (with interactive video, on-demand movies and music and satellite news programming), personal safe and twice daily suite service plus turndown nightly. In their 2009 brochure, Silversea says that this vessel has "the largest average size accommodation of any expedition ship." The accommodations onboard this vessel range in size from 175 to 626 square feet.

Standard Staterooms: The most basic staterooms onboard Prince Albert II are her Adventurer Class staterooms. Such accommodations are located on deck 3 and are 175 to 184 square feet (depending on the particular room), and feature all of the amenities listed above, plus two portholes, a sitting area, two twin beds or one queen-sized bed, marbled bathroom with tub/shower combination, writing desk and flat screen TV with interactive video, on-demand movies and music, direct-dial telephone, WiFi internet access (for a fee) and satellite news programming. The next step up would be an Explorer Class stateroom, which is larger than an Adventurer Class (at 185 to 275 square feet) and has a window in instead of portholes. Explorer Class staterooms are all located on deck 4.

Suites:
A View Suite, which is 230 square feet, is the most basic suite onboard Prince Albert II. Such a suite (located on 3 deck) features everything that an Explorer Class stateroom does. The next step up is a Vista Suite, which is located on deck 4 and is 194 to 230 square feet in size, some of which feature a large picture window with panoramic views (while others feature a standard window). A Veranda Suite, which is located on deck 5 and is 230 square feet, has a (15 square foot) French balcony with floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors.

An Expedition Suite, at 460 square feet on deck 3, features two view windows, a living room (with convertible sofa to accommodate an additional guest), a sitting area, two twin beds or one queen-sized bed, marbled bathroom with full-sized bath and separate shower, walk-in wardrobe (with personal safe), complimentary laundry service (not including dry cleaning or "press only") and a writing desk. A Discoverer Suite (located on deck 4) is the next most premium accommodation. Such a suite has everything an Expedition Suite does, with 2 large picture windows instead of standard windows. A Silver Suite (located on deck 5) has everything an Expedition Suite does, with 2 French balconies (30 square feet in total) instead of standard windows. A Silver Suite is available as a one-bedroom or as two bedrooms by adjoining with an adjacent Veranda Suite.

A Medallion Suite, which is located on deck 7 and is 351 square feet, has a 86 square foot teak veranda with patio furniture and floor-to-ceiling glass doors, as well as a sitting area, two twin beds or one queen-sized bed, a marbled bathroom with full-sized bath and separate shower, a writing desk and complimentary laundry service (as previously described).

A Grand Suite, which is a spacious 675 square feet, has a 87 square foot teak veranda with patio furniture and floor-to-ceiling glass doors, a living room with sitting area, two twin beds or one queen-sized bed, a marbled bathroom with full-sized bath and separate shower, walk-in wardrobe with personal safe, vanity table with hair dryer, complimentary laundry service (as previously mentioned) and complimentary butler service. There are only two Grand Suites onboard Prince Albert II, both of which are located on deck 7.

The most premium accommodations onboard Prince Albert II are her two Owner's Suites, both of which are located on deck 7. These suites are available as a one-bedroom or as two bedrooms by adjoining with an adjacent Medallion Suite. Such suites are 626 square feet, and have a spacious 158 square foot teak veranda (with patio furniture and floor-to-ceiling glass doors). Owner's Suites also feature two twin beds or one queen-sized bed, a living room with sitting area, marbled bathroom (with full-sized bath and separate shower), walk-in wardrobe with personal safe, vanity table with hair dryer, writing desk, complimentary laundry service (as previously mentioned) and complimentary butler service.

Dining
Prince Albert II has an open-seating dining setup. This means that you can dine whenever you want, with whomever you want (during the appropriate dining hours). The Restaurant is located aft on deck 4. Like on all of the other Silversea vessels, the food is quite good (gourmet quality).

24-hour complimentary room service is available to all passengers. It's an excellent option for a late night snack, or for when you're feeling a little lazy and would rather the food come to you.

Onboard Features
Expert naturalists and special guest lecturers are featured on all sailings of Prince Albert II. This is a main aspect of a cruise onboard this vessel, as it adds a lot to your overall experience in the unique destinations that are visited during your cruise.

For a small ship there are a bunch of public spaces available. The Humidor is a cigar lounge, located on deck 5. Also on deck 5 is the library (which includes the internet cafe) and the Panorama Lounge. There is internet and cellular phone service available throughout the ship, both available for a fee. There's a beauty salon and launderette mid-ship on deck 4. The theatre, featuring various live entertainment (such as singers, magicians and musicians) is located forward on deck 6 (near the observation lounge).

The main lobby and reception is located mid-ship on deck 3, and is where you'd want to go with any general questions or needs. Also on deck 3 is Prince Albert II's medical center. Please be aware that Silversea will charge you for any medical attention you need while onboard Prince Albert II, which is why traveler's insurance is highly recommend for all cruisers.

Dress Code and Attire
On a Silversea cruise the onboard attire ranges from casual to formal. During the day casual resort wear is appropriate, meaning that you should wear the type of outfit that you would if you were at a resort.

There is three types of evening dress codes onboard a Silversea cruise: casual, informal and formal. Casual means open neck shirts, slacks and sports outfits. Informal means dresses or trousersuits for women, and jackets (tie optional) for men. Formal evening wear for women is an evening gown or cocktail dress, while it's a tuxedo, dinner jacket or dark suit for men. If you dine in La Terrazza on a formal night you may wear casually elegant attire (which would be a dress or trousersuit for women, and a jacket with tie optional for men).

Sailings of eight days or less will usually have two formal nights, while longer cruises usually have three or four formal nights.

Children Programs
There is not a children's program, and there are not any children's facilities onboard any of Silversea's cruise ships. Silversea doesn't allow children under one year old to book, and actually reserves the right to limit the number of children under three years of age onboard each sailing.

Tipping and Gratuities
Gratuities are included in the cruise fare for all Silversea cruises.

Alcohol Policy
The minimum drinking age on all Silversea cruise ships is 21 years old.

Gambling Policy
The minimum gambling age onboard all Silversea cruise ships is 18 years old.
