The luxurious 208-passenger Seabourn Spirit was the second ship in the Yachts of Seabourn fleet. She's the sister ship of the identical Seabourn Legend and Seabourn Pride. All of the accommodations onboard Seabourn Spirit are spacious suites, each having either a large picture window or balcony.
Seabourn offers a nice value in the luxury cruising market, as they offer top-notch service, gourmet cuisine, great itineraries (as their small ships are able to reach desirable ports of call that larger ones cannot), an open bar (of house wines, liquor, beer and soda) and included gratuities in their pricing. Aside from her fine dining venues, among the most popular features found onboard Seabourn Spirit is her marina, featuring a variety of water sports right off of the ship.
Seabourn Spirit will be featuring cruises in the following regions (subject to change, based on the cruise line's discretion):
2010: Asia, Caribbean, India, Mediterranean, Middle East, South America, Transatlantic 2011: Asia, Australia, India, Mediterranean, Middle East, Panama Canal, Transatlantic
Being small ship, there is not a wide range of accommodations available onboard Seabourn Spirit. However, all of the staterooms onboard this vessel are beautiful suites, each with a large picture window or balcony. All of these suites feature a separate living area with bedroom, walk-in closet, flat-screen TV with DVD player, fully-stocked bar (replenished daily to your preferences), writing desk, spacious marble bathroom (with tub, shower and large vanity), hair dryer, 110/220 outlets, direct dial telephone, safe, as well as some audiobooks, CDs and DVDs. Seabourn Spirit's suites range in size from 277 to 575 square feet.
The most basic accommodation onboard Seabourn Spirit is a (category A3) Seabourn Suite, which is 277 square feet and has a large picture window. The next step up is a (category B2 or B3) Balcony Suite, which is the same size as a Seabourn Suite but has a balcony instead of a picture window. A (category D1) Double Suite is 552 square feet, while a (category CS) Classic Suite is 400 square feet.
A (category OW) Owner's Suite is the most premium accommodation onboard Seabourn Spirit. Such suites are 530 to 575 square feet in size, depending on the particular suite. Owner's Suites #'s 5 & 6 have an obstructed view of their living room windows, and their private verandahs have an over head obstruction (due to the overhang of a life boat).
Seabourn's ships feature the innovations of celebrity Chef Charlie Palmer (a two-time James Beard award winner known for his progressive approach to American cuisine), featuring gourmet cuisine made possible by fresh ingredients and regional specialties. The dining is without a doubt one of the highlights of a Seabourn cruise, made obvious by the fact that Seabourn has won the International Five Star Diamond Award for the last 13 years (as of 2008).
There's an open-seating format onboard Seabourn Spirit. This means that you can eat where you want, when you want and with whomever you want. That in combination with the open bar that's available while onboard makes for a great dining experience. Please be aware that premium vintage wines are not included in the complimentary list.
The Restaurant (located mid-ship on deck 3) features gourmet cuisine served on Porsgrund China and Schott Zwiesel crystal. This is the main dining venue onboard Seabourn Spirit. Most evenings in this venue are jacket required, and there is usually at least one candlelit black tie optional affair. This venue serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, and there are vegetarian and light menu options always available. Examples of main courses served for dinner are grilled hanger steak and sautéed escalope of foie gras.
Veranda Café, an indoor/outdoor option located aft on deck 7, features a wonderful buffet and menu. During the evening this venue is transformed into Restaurant 2. Restaurant 2 serves wine and food pairings in small plates, featuring great presentations and offering a totally different dining experience in comparison with The Restaurant. Some evenings in this venue feature themed meals. An example of a course served at this venue is Tuscany braised veal with mascarpone mashed potato.
The Sky Grill is an outdoor venue featuring fresh, al fresco cuisine. It's a great place to have a casual lunch, and it's occasionally open for dinner (featuring grilled specialties, such as steak and lobster, when it is).
Afternoon tea, a popular tradition among the luxury cruise lines, is available daily in the Midnight Sun Lounge (located forward on deck 8). A nice selection of scones and sandwiches are served along with the tea.
Don't forget that 24 hour room service is available for all passengers. There is a gourmet menu available for all three meals. It's an excellent option for a late night snack, or for when you're feeling a little lazy and would rather the food come to you. During dinner hours, you can order from the menu of The Restaurant to your suite and be served course-by-course.
For a ship of its size, Seabourn Spirit features a nice variety of onboard amenities and public spaces. They emphasize a casual, yachting lifestyle, so their daily itineraries aren't as regimented as some other lines.
There is a built-in marina located at the rear of Seabourn Spirit (on deck 3). Water sport activities available to guests include swimming, snorkeling, windsurfing, kayaking and waterskiing. It's really nice, being able to partake in these activities right off of the ship. This area is definitely one of the most popular features found onboard Seabourn Spirit. Other water-related features found onboard Seabourn Spirit includes the pool (on deck 7), which is right by a couple of large whirlpools. Outdoor lounge seating is available in this area, and is a great place to relax under the sun. There's also a whirlpool located on the bow (front) of the ship (on deck 5), which is a great spot to relax with a glass of your favorite cocktail and enjoy the ocean breeze.
Seabourn, like many other luxury cruise lines, features a nice enrichment program (called Dress Circle) onboard their yachts. Guests have the opportunity to meet various experts, chefs and celebrities (from a wide range of fields) as part of this program.
The gym onboard Seabourn Spirit, located on deck 7, is sufficient enough for the average guest. There is a bunch of fitness equipment available for use (such as treadmills, cardio cycles and dumbbells), and there are free classes available (such as yoga and Pilates). The (somewhat small) Spa at Seabourn is adjacent to the gym. This venue features a wide range of treatments (such as massages, facials, warm stones, Japanese Shiatsu and seaweed wraps), as well as a steam room, sauna and beauty salon.
There's a nice selection of places to be at throughout the evening onboard Seabourn Spirit. There's a few lounges, including the Sky Bar (located on deck 8, featuring a six-piece band) and the Horizon Lounge (an observation lounge offering great views of the ship's surroundings, often featuring live classical guitar music), as well as a small casino (featuring a few gaming tables and slot machines). Each evening of your cruise there will be a live show of some sort in Amundsen Lounge (on deck 5), such as a comedian, magician or Broadway revue. The Club is another lounge onboard Seabourn Spirit (located aft on deck 6, by the casino), featuring a live band and dance floor. Movies Under the Stars is a large outdoor screen that plays first run movies, where fresh popcorn is available. Dessert Under the Stars is another wonderful event that occurs outdoors onboad this vessel. A very unique event that takes place during select evenings is when the captain turns the ship's lights off, creating a very relaxing and mystical atmosphere.
Just in case you're wondering, the cruise director's office can be found on deck 5, right by the purser's desk. Also on deck 5 is a card room and computer center. The library is on deck 6, nearby the boutique. The bridge, where the captain works, is forward on deck 7. Not sure what you want to do while in port? The Signature Service Desk is where you can go onboard Seabourn Spirit to get expert assistance from their staff.
There's a medical facility located on deck 3, in the case that you need such attention. Please be aware that Seabourn will charge you for any medical care provided while on the cruise, which is why the purchase of traveler's insurance is highly recommended.
Caviar in the Surf is a
lavish beach party held by Seabourn ashore, featuring fresh seafood and caviar.
The daytime dress typically worn onboard a Seabourn ship is best described as country club casual. Examples of this type of dress would be Bermuda style shorts. Swimsuits, brief shorts, cover-ups and exercise attire should only be worn poolside, or in the spa and fitness center.
The evening dress code varies, depending on that particular night. There are three main types of evening dress codes on a Seabourn cruise: Casual (slacks and a sweater or shirt for men; skirt or slacks with a sweater or blouse for women), Elegant Casual (slacks with a jacket over a sweater or shirt for men; sun-dresses, skirts or pants with a sweater or blouse for women) and Black Tie Optional (tuxedo or dark suit for men; evening gown or other formal attire for women). The Black Tie Optional dress code will usually occur one time during a one-week cruise, and three to four times on a two-week cruise. The evening dress code typically starts as of 6:00 pm on each day of the cruise.
Seabourn doesn't have a designated area for children onboard this ship, and doesn't have a set children's program either. Due to the nature of the product offered by Seabourn (with little or no activities for children available onboard), children usually don't go on such a cruise.
All gratuities are included for the onboard staff in the cruise fare charged by Seabourn. However, if a particular staff member really exceeds their duties you can feel free to give them a little something extra.
The minimum drinking age on all Seabourn cruise ships is 21 years of age.
The minimum age to gamble in the casino onboard a Seabourn cruise ship is 21 years of age.
