Seabourn Cruise Line, also known as "The Yachts of Seabourn," is a member of the World's Leading Cruise Lines, a Carnival Corporation company (since 1999). Created in 1987, Seabourn strives to provide an ultra-upscale cruising product that is marketed to experienced travelers that desire the best of everything. Seabourn's first ship was Seabourn Pride, whose inaugural cruise took place in 1988.
Size-wise Seabourn's cruise ships are on the smaller end of the mainstream cruising spectrum, each one only weighing 10,000 tons. However, what this allows for is a luxurious and intimate experience. On a Seabourn cruise you will find top quality service, and will experience one of the finest dining experiences at sea. All of the staterooms onboard their current ships are suites, so you should expect excellent accommodations regardless of your specific category.
Over the years, Seabourn has consistently won numerous awards and accolades. For example, they were named one of the "World's Best Values," in 2007 Travel & Leisure Readers' Poll. Seabourn has also been included on the Gold List of Condé Nast Traveler for 12 consecutive years (1994-2006). The American Academy of Hospitality Sciences has awarded Seabourn with their Five Star Diamond Award (their highest rating) for 13 years in a row.
Unlike many other cruise lines, Seabourn includes gratuities in their cruise fares. In addition to that, Seabourn offers its guests complimentary wine and spirits throughout their cruises. This provides their guests with an all-inclusive cruise, a rarity today.
The 32,000-ton Seabourn Odyssey, which launched in June of 2009, is among the most exciting news regarding Seabourn Cruise Line. She is the largest ship in the Seabourn fleet, and 90% of her staterooms have a balcony. Sister ships of Seabourn Odyssey will be released in the future, one in June 2010 (Seabourn Sojourn) and a second in June 2011 (Seabourn Quest).
Seabourn travels to most of the most popular cruising destinations. A major advantage that Seabourn has, because of its small ships, is that they can reach ports that larger cruise ships cannot. Seabourn's ships can be found cruising in Asia, the Caribbean, Europe, India and Arabia, the Mediterranean, the Mexican Riviera, Northern Europe, the Panama Canal and South America.
During 2010, Seabourn Odyssey embarked on the first ever World Cruise in Seabourn's history. In 2010 and 2011 Seabourn will have one ship year-round in Asia, including ports of call in China, Korea and Japan. Another Seabourn ship will be doing Indonesia and Malaysia, while another will go down to the Indian Ocean isles of Africa (Seychelles, Madagascar, Comoros and Zanzibar). During 2011, Seabourn Sojourn will do a World Cruise, following in the footsteps of her sister ship.
As stated above, Seabourn offers a top qualify cruising experience. Three of Seabourn's cruise ships (all of which are sister ships) Seabourn Legend, Seabourn Pride, and Seabourn Spirit, are nearly identical.
The all-suite Seabourn staterooms are filled with top qualify offerings. For example, all rooms have flat-screen televisions, DVD players, sound systems, and a complimentary in-suite bar setup (that will be restocked as needed). Staterooms range in size from a minimum of 277 square-feet, all the way up to 575 square feet.
The award winning Seabourn spa, known as the Spa at Seabourn, is always available for your pleasure. Be sure to make treatment reservations ahead of time, to avoid availability problems. There is also a pool, casino, and show lounge onboard each of the Seabourn ships. Like many of the other luxury cruise lines, Seabourn offers a daily afternoon tea service to its passengers. Being that bar drinks are complimentary, you'll find a very social atmosphere aboard the ship.
Seabourn offers an excellent onboard enrichment program. This program features expert lecturers, from a multitude of fields. For example, you may have the opportunity to join a lecture on entertainment, journalism or sports. In addition to their lecture program, during a Seabourn cruise you will usually have the opportunity to attend a cooking demonstration, given by an expert culinary artisan.
Speaking of food, you'll be more than happy with the dining options offered on a Seabourn cruise. Their cuisine is five-star quality, with menus designed by world-class master chefs (including celebrity chef Charlie Palmer, a two-time James Beard award winner). In fact, Seabourn is a member of Chaîne de Rôtisseurs, one of the world's most famous fine dining societies. Besides the onboard restaurants, there is even a 24-hour room service menu available.
A Seabourn cruise it not really geared towards family cruising (however, there will be slightly more families than usual on a shorter Seabourn cruise). A typical Seabourn cruiser is a well-to-do highly seasoned traveler, seeking the "best of the best." While on a Seabourn cruise you'll find that many of the passengers are past guests of Seabourn, as they have developed a faithful following.
Seabourn's past passenger program is the Seabourn Club. As a member of the Seabourn Club you will have access to exclusive rates and amenities. View our Seabourn Club page for additional details.
There are four cruise ships currently in the Seabourn Cruise Line fleet, in addition to the upcoming Seabourn Sojourn and Seabourn Quest (both which will be sister ships to the new Seabourn Odyssey).
