I think that the Star Princess is a very nice ship. We were very happy with it overall. This was our fourth cruise on Princess and we already booked another one while onboard the ship (they gave us a bonus onboard credit), and then we transferred the booking to our travel agent who made an even sweeter deal on top of Princess' offer.
Onboard the ship there's plenty to do. There's a casino, big show lounge (that has a nice show on each night of the cruise), bars, a night club, a few restaurants, a video game arcade and more. Believe it or not, quite a few passengers would hang out in the hot tubs, even when it wasn't too warm out (which was quite often).
A couple of things to know: Don't expect your cell phones to work while at sea. Make sure that you pack enough heavy clothes, as it can get quite cold, especially while in the mountains. If you have time before or after the cruise we highly recommend that you stay a few days in Seattle, because it's a great city with lots of things to do (such as visiting Pike's Market or the Space Needle). Be sure to book your excursions before the cruise, and do them with the cruise line - by doing it with the cruise line you make sure that the ship won't leave without you if the excursion runs late, and the excursions are usually refundable if you cancel at least 2 days prior to when it's supposed to occur.
