Overview of Princess Cruises
Princess Cruises is one of the most recognized cruise lines in the world. Princess Cruises has been owned by the Carnival Corporation since 2003, after the parent company of Princess (P&O Cruises) was purchased by Carnival.

Princess Cruises started small - with one ship, in 1965, cruising to Mexico. In 1977 Princess received a lot of media publicity as a result of the use of its Pacific Princess cruise ship in the famous TV show known as "The Love Boat." That show heavily exposed its viewers to the idea of cruising, and helped the cruising industry grow.

Princess Cruises is truly a pioneer of the cruise industry. Among their industry firsts was the first 24-hour restaurant. In 2001, Princess became the first cruise line to offer guests a choice in their main dining room experience, between a traditional assigned time and table seating format, or a restaurant-style Anytime Dining, in which diners could eat when and with whom they chose. Today the Princess Cruises fleet is one of the youngest, and most modern, cruising fleets in the world.

The Princess Cruises motto is "big ship choice with small ship feel." This refers to the fact that they design their ships to create an intimate and relaxed feeling in their public rooms, with a wide range of onboard amenities. Most of the Princess cruise ships feature a very large percentage of balcony staterooms. Because of this they are able to sell them for a reasonable price.

The 141,000-ton Regal Princess debuted in 2014, and is the newest ship in the Princess Cruises fleet. She's the sister ship of Royal Princess, which debuted in 2013. They are the largest ships to ever sail in the Princess fleet. Features of these beautiful vessels include an over-water Seawalk, which is a first-of-its-kind. This enclosed walkway extends from the ship’s top deck and features a port side cantilevered bar, each with glass floors and sweeping ocean views. 80% of the accommodations aboard these 3,560-guest ships have a balcony. A third Royal-class ship is expected to join the Princess Crusies fleet during spring 2017.

Princess introduced a brand new chocolate experience across its fleet. This new program is called Chocolate Journeys and includes a full line of chocolate desserts at all of Princess's signature restaurants, chocolate love pops at the Captain's Cocktail Reception, premium chocolate/wine tastings, chocolate cooking demonstrations, a chocolate drink menu, and finally chocolate spa treatments.

Princess Cruise Destinations
Princess offers over 150 itineraries to choose from, ranging from 1 to 114 days in length. The Princess fleet sails to all of the major cruise destinations, such as Alaska, Asia, Australia/New Zealand, Canada/New England, the Caribbean, Europe, Hawaii, Mexico, the Panama Canal, South America, the South Pacific, and more. Princess even offers World Cruises, for those that have the time (and money) to enjoy such pleasures. Of these destinations, Princess has an especially large cruising presence in Alaska. In Alaska, Princess offers a wide range of cruise ships, itineraries, and even cruise tours (featuring their own wilderness lodges, luxury railcars, and deluxe motor coaches).

Onboard Princess Cruises
Princess offers a wide range of onboard choices to its passengers. Included in this is their Scholarship@Sea program, an enrichment program featuring a wide range of classes (such as computer training, ceramics, photography, and more). One of the exciting innovations that most of the younger Princess cruise ships are offering are their poolside "Movies Under the Stars" screens. Many of the newer Princess ships feature these 300-square-foot LED screens that may play live sporting events, music concerts, movies, and may even feature video game tournaments at times.

Princess offers a few dining options for its passengers too. They are one of the few cruise lines to offer both Traditional (assigned) and Personal Choice (anytime) dining options. Traditional dining offers a fixed dining time (usually at either 6:00 pm or 8:15 pm), with the same exact table and waiter each night. Personal Choice dining gives you a range of times (usually between 5:30 pm and 10:00 pm) that you can dine between, where you just go whenever you want and usually get seated at a different table each night. In addition to those dining choices, there are also buffets and specialty restaurants available (with a cover charge for the specialty restaurants).

Because of its wide marketing reach, Princess attracts a wide range of passengers. Onboard a Princess cruise you'll find honeymooners, singles, couples, families, seniors, and more.
