The MSC Splendida launched in the summer of 2009. She is part of the largest ship class in the MSC Cruises fleet. A sister ship, the MSC Fantasia, was released in December of 2008, making the Splendida the second ship of her kind in the MSC family of ships.
This vessel is the second MSC cruise ship to feature an exclusive VIP area, called the "MSC Yacht Club." This is a special area with restricted access and personal service. 99 suites make up this area, with a butler for every five rooms. Yacht Club guests will have access to exclusive areas in the ship, including a bar, solarium, two hot tubs, a pool with a retractable sky dome, a concierge service, and more.
Also onboard the MSC Splendida are six main restaurants, a Formula 1 race car simulator, an interactive 4-D cinema, an aqua park (with 150 illuminated musical fountains), a children's area with swimming pools and waterslides, a spa (with a thermal cave), and 80% of her 1,637 staterooms have an oceanview (many of which have a private balcony).
The MSC Splendida features cruises in the following regions (subject to change, based on the cruise line's discretion):
2010: Mediterranean, as well as a single Africa cruise

Casual resort wear is appropriate at any time during the day on an MSC cruise. However, after 6:00pm, jeans, t-shirts, shorts, and bare feet are not permitted in the ships' public areas.
A cocktail dress for women and a suit or coat and tie for men are appropriate on formal evenings (one on 4- to 6-night cruises, two on 7- to 11-night cruises, and four on cruises 15 nights or longer).
Because of their "Kids Sail Free" promotion that's available on many sailings, there will be a decent number of children onboard most MSC cruises. This promotion is for kids 17 and under, when there are two full fare paying adults in the same stateroom as them. Some taxes and fees will still be charged for such children. MSC also offers a 30% discount on many shore excursions, for children under 12.
MSC has a children's program onboard each of their ships, consisting of three age-based groups. The Mini Club is for children ages 3 to 8; the Juniors Club is for children 9 to 12 years of age; the Teen Club is for 13 to 17 year olds. A variety of age-appropriate activities are available for children, such as shows, games, a mini-Olympics, painting, dancing, as well as arts & crafts. There is a children's menu available as well, featuring popular selections such as hot dogs, hamburgers, pasta and pizza.
Gratuities are not mandatory, as they are at your discretion. However, MSC will automatically add a gratuity charge to each guest's onboard account (except aboard the MSC Rhapsody, where you should tip at your own discretion). On Caribbean cruises and Ocean Voyages this per adult, per day charge is $12, while it's €6 (Euro) per person per day on Europe cruises and $6 per person per day on MSC's South America cruises. Children will be charged half of the adult rate.
This gratuity charge covers the services provided to you by your maitre d’ and his assistants, your waiter and busboys, buffet staff, your stateroom attendant, room service, and bellboys. Casino dealers and spa personnel do not share in this charge, since not all guests utilize these services. A gratuity is included on all bar checks, for those serving you.
If you'd like to make any adjustments to this automatic charge you are allowed to do so, by contacting the main reception desk and explaining what you'd like to change.
The minimum age required to drink alcoholic beverages while onboard an MSC cruise ship is 21 years of age. Any alcohol that is purchased by guests onboard the ship or in a port of call will be held by MSC until the last evening of the cruise (when they'll return it to you in your stateroom).
The minimum age required to gamble onboard an MSC cruise ship is 21 years of age.
