Since its start in 1989, Celebrity Cruises has become one of the world leaders in luxury cruising. In 1997 they merged with Royal Caribbean International to form Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.
Onboard a Celebrity cruise ship you will find top quality service and gourmet dining. Their ships are built with high quality and a grand style.
Over the years Celebrity Cruises has been in the forefront of many advances in the cruising industry.
For instance, In 1995 Celebrity introduced an industry first, their AquaSpa® by Elemis, a luxurious spa within a cruise ship. In 2000 the Millennium was the first cruise ship to feature gas turbine engines, reducing exhaust emissions by up to 95% over traditional propulsion systems.
Celebrity has recently started building much larger ships. This began with the launch of Celebrity Solstice in November of 2008, introducing a new Solstice-class of ships into their fleet. She was followed by the debut of her sister ship, Celebrity Equinox, in July of 2009. A third Solstice-class ship, Celebrity Eclipse, debuted during April 2010. These 122,000 ton ships will be the largest ships in the Celebrity fleet (by far), and should demonstrate that luxury cruising can be effectively provided regardless of ship size.
A recent departure from Celebrity's fleet was Celebrity Galaxy, which was sold by Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. to TUI-AG (a Germany-based cruise line). This ship will be moved into the fleet of TUI Cruises, a joint subsidiary of Royal Caribbean and TUI-AG. She is scheduled to re-launch in May of 2009 under a new name, Mein Schiff.
New for Celebrity Cruises is Celebrity Select Dining, a flexible dining option for guests that would prefer to be able to decide what time they'd like to dine in the main dining room during each night of their cruise (rather than simply selecting to either dine during the traditional main or second seating). This program is being rolled out ship-by-ship, and will be fleet wide by the end of the first quarter of 2010. After making a reservation on an eligible sailing, you can go on to Celebrity's web site to reserve specific times for each night of your cruise (which we highly recommend that you do, if you select this type of dining).
A recent announcement by Celebrity Cruises is that their fourth Solstice-Class ship will be named Celebrity Silhouette. She is excepted to debut in 2011 and will feature AquaClass staterooms, the Lawn Club and all of the other goodies available on board the current Solstice ships.
A fifth Solstice Class ship is expected to launch during November 2012 and will be named Celebrity Reflection.
Celebrity cruises in all of the most popular cruising destinations around the world. For example, Celebrity Cruises offers cruises in Alaska, Asia, Australia/New Zealand, Canada/New England, the Caribbean, Europe, Hawaii, the Panama Canal, and South America. In addition to that, Celebrity also offers year-round Galapagos Islands cruises onboard Celebrity Xpedition. Celebrity is the only major cruise line that offers year-round Galapagos cruises.
Celebrity Cruises is well known for their pre- and post-cruise land packages, especially in Alaska and Europe. Also known as "cruise tours," these packages give a cruiser a chance to experience the inland portions of a country that a typical cruiser would not have the chance to.
Celebrity Cruises features what they call "tastes of luxury" onboard their ships. These "tastes" include welcome champagne and mimosas, cold towels and fresh sorbet poolslide, sushi cafes, pizza/pasta bars, sunset yoga, and (an industry first) "Acupuncture at Sea." From their casual AquaSpa Cafe, serving light options, to their luxurious main dining rooms and specialty restaurants, there's truly a wide range of options onboard each Celebrity cruise ship.
The AquaSpa is the name of Celebrity's spa. Celebrity offers an excellent variety of spa treatments, including Meditative Relaxation, a Hydrotherapy Spa Bath, The Etruscan Chamber, Acupuncture at Sea, Elemis Synergistic Therapy, a Rasul and much more. There is also a fitness center onboard each Celebrity cruise ship, allowing you to burn off the calories from the amazing food offered onboard.
Celebrity's X-Club is their youth program. This program is available year round, starting at 9 am during days at sea, or 30 minutes before arriving in port (on port days). The program is divided into five age-based groups, and is for kids ages 3 through 17.
Celebrity Cruises tends to appeal to traveler's in their 40's and up, with a household income of $75,000 and higher. Most of the guests onboard a Celebrity cruise are from the US, but lately more and more international travelers are starting to cruise onboard the Celebrity ships.
Celebrity's past passenger program is the Captain's Club. This is a special program to reward their customers for coming back to them. There are three levels to the Captain's Club: Classic, Select, and Elite. Benefits include upgrades, cocktail parties, and private lounges. For more information about this program, view our Captain's Club page.
The Celebrity Cruises fleet is made up of 10 cruise ships, including the new Celebrity Equinox and Celebrity Eclipse (which are sister ships). A sister ship of these vessels, Celebrity Silhouette, is expected to debut during 2011.
