Carnival Cruise Line Overview
Carnival Cruise Lines is the largest cruise line in the world. Carnival started from humble beginnings in 1972, with a single cruise ship (TSS Mardi Gras). The Carnival Corporation took a huge leap in size in 1994 when it combined with P&O Princess Cruises to become the largest cruise vacation group in the world (by far), thereafter being known as Carnival Corp & plc. Over the years Carnival has developed many new ships, while keeping many of their older ships for short cruise itineraries.

Carnival is well known for developing many of the latest innovations in the cruising industry, constantly pushing their competition to keep up with them. For example, when the 101,353-ton Carnival Destiny launched in 1996 it was the first ever passenger vessel that was over 100,000 tons. In addition to that, Carnival was (in 1984) the first cruise line to advertise on network television, making a Carnival cruise something talked about in many households.

For a long time Carnival had a reputation as being a "party boat" company. They have taken many strides over years to rid themselves of this stigma, making a Carnival cruise an option for travelers of all backgrounds. For example, in the past they had hired renowned chefs including French Master Chef Georges Blanc to redesign the menus available on all Carnival cruises. This has led to much better food on Carnival cruises, introducing various gourmet options for their customers. Carnival's (optional) high end specialty restaurant, commonly known as the Supper Club, is one of the best of its kind offered at sea (there is a cover charge, but it's worth it). In addition to that, Carnival has implemented the most strict age policy in the cruising industry. Their standard age policy is that anyone in a room that is under 21 years of age must have someone staying in their room with them that is at least 25 years of age. Although Carnival cruises tend to attract families, they really host a wide range of guests. In fact, the average age of a passenger on a Carnival cruise is around 45 years old.

Carnival Cruise Lines provides discounts for senior citizens (age 55+) on select Carnival cruises. They also offer regional and military (active duty & retired) discounts. Because of a Carnival cruise's value-based pricing points, they tend to attract guests of all backgrounds and ages. That in combination with the diverse range of activities onboard their ships results in a Carnival cruise being quite attractive to all types of travelers.

In 2008, when Carnival Cruise Lines released the 113,300-ton Carnival Splendor, she was their largest ship to date. This ship has many features that were new to the Carnival at that time. Among them were spa staterooms, and a 21,000-square foot, two-level spa and gym, Serenity (an adult-only retreat). In September of 2009 Carnival released an even larger (130,000-ton) and more feature packed ship, Carnival Dream. This ship has taken Carnival cruises to an entirely new level, featuring a 40,000-square foot Cloud 9 Spa and new accommodations such as Cloud 9 Spa staterooms and Cove Balconies. Their newest ship is the Carnival Breeze, which debuted in June of 2012. She is the last of the Dream Class ships and features all of the excitement and activity of her sisters, Carnival Dream and Carnival Magic.

Next up for Carnival Cruise Lines will be Carnival Vista, which will debut in Europe during 2016, eventually making her way to New York City.

Carnival Cruise Destinations
Carnival's "Fun Ships" can be found in all of the major cruise destinations (except Europe, which they did previously feature). For example, they offer cruises in Alaska, the Bahamas, Canada/New England, the Caribbean, Hawaii, Mexico, the Panama Canal, and many other popular destinations.

The Carnival cruise ships depart from many major port cities, including (but not limited to) New York City, Miami, Los Angeles (via Long Beach), Galveston, Tampa, New Orleans, San Juan, and Vancouver.

Onboard Carnival Cruises
On a Carnival cruise ship there's one thing that's for sure - you're going to have a fun time! Whether it's day or night, there a lot of things to do onboard each one of Carnival's "Fun Ships." From the glitzy showrooms to the casinos, pools, spas, fitness centers, salons, art galleries, bingo, restaurants and night clubs; there's definitely something for everyone on a Carnival cruise. A particularly cool feature onboard many of Carnival's ships is their Seaside Theatre, a huge outdoor screen showing movies, cartoons and various sporting events. Another exciting venue that's available on many Carnival cruise ships is Carnival WaterWorks, an aqua park that features a huge Twister Waterslide.

Carnival's dining program is called "Total Choice Dining." This is a daily feature onboard each Carnival vessel, based on having a variety of indoor and outdoor dining options, ranging in dress code from informal to formal, with very flexible dining hours to go with it. Among the options are their main dining rooms, casual dining on the Lido deck, their optional (upscale) Supper Club specialty restaurant, 24-hour complimentary stateroom room service, as well as late-night bistros and buffets.

The youth program, onboard each Carnival ship, has three age-based groups. Camp Carnival is for 2-11 year olds, Circle "C" is for 12-14 year olds, and Club O2 is for 15-17 year olds (featuring their dedicated Club O2 Lounge). Each program is designed to keep your kids happy and busy while on your Carnival cruise. Among the popular activities in these programs are playing video games and various sports, taking part in talent shows and board games, and having fun-filled teen parties.

Even when you're not onboard their ships, Carnival wants to make sure that you have as much fun as possible. Because of this, Carnival Cruise Lines has a wide range of shore excursions available for you to choose from.
