Overview

Philadelphia, also known as "the City of Brotherly Love," is the largest city in the US state of Pennsylvania. Philly, as it is also known as, is at the center of American history. In fact, Philly was the original capital city of the United States (in the late 1700's). Philadelphia was also the home to the birth of the American Revolution. Because of the combination of its rich history with its modern-day prominence, Philadelphia is a great (and popular) city to visit.

Norwegian Cruise Line's Norwegian Majesty is the only mainstream cruise ship that currently offers cruises departing from Philadelphia.

Tourist Attractions
Philadelphia is one of the most history-rich cities in the United States. As such, there are a lot of tours available at the various national historic sites in Philly.

Independence National Historic Park is the home of many areas of historic fame. In this park you can find Independence Hall (where the Declaration of Independence was signed) and the Liberty Bell (one of the main symbols of independence within the United States). Other historic sites in Philadelphia include the homes of Edgar Allan Poe and Betsy Ross.

Popular museums in the Philadelphia area include the Franklin Institute, the Philadelphia Museum of Art (home of the Rocky statue, and the steps made famous in the movie), the National Constitution Center and the National Museum of American Jewish History.

A great shopping area in Philly is Center City (the downtown and Central Business District of Philadelphia), home to a wide range of stores (such as The Gallery at Market East and The Shops at Liberty Place). Within Center City, on a section of Walnut Street, are various high-end stores and boutiques.

Philadelphia is well known for having some of the world's best cheesesteaks. In fact, the term "Philly Cheesesteak" is well known all around the US. Geno's and Pat's, perhaps the two most famous cheesesteak eateries in Philly, are located in the Italian Market in South Philadelphia.
