Overview

Los Angeles, often referred to as L.A., is the second largest city in the United States (it also happens to be the largest city in the state of California). An extremely diverse city, Los Angeles is a major hub of travel, culture, cuisine, technology and trade. Los Angeles is also well known for being a prominent center for the motion picture industry, with its Hollywood region being famous around the world for this very reason.

With a Mediterranean-like climate, Los Angeles is very popular for vacationing. As such, when taking a cruise departing from Los Angeles, many cruisers like to stay a few nights (before or after the cruise) in L.A. for additional vacationing time.

Tourist Attractions
Los Angeles is filled with things to do and places to see. There's truly something for everyone in this spectacular city.

One of the most popular tourist attractions to visit in Los Angeles is Grauman's Chinese Theatre, a famous movie theater in Hollywood, which opened in 1927. In front of the theater (formerly known as Mann's Chinese Theatre) you can find about 200 footprints and handprints of famous celebrities.

Other popular tourist attractions in Los Angeles include the Kodak Theatre (the usual host of the Academy Awards ceremony), Capitol Records Tower (the home of various recording studios), Chinatown, Little Tokyo, La Brea Tar Pits, the Hollywood Bowl (the site of many concerts) and the world-famous Hollywood Sign, a true icon located in the Hollywood Hills.

Not surprisingly, there is a wide range of popular shopping areas in Los Angeles. Included in these are Rodeo Drive, Melrose Avenue, the Beverly Center, Robertson Boulevard and The Grove.

Sunset Strip, found in popular West Hollywood, is a very popular spot for nightlife in Los Angeles (located on Sunset Avenue). In this area you can find an array of restaurants, night clubs and boutiques. Other popular nightlife areas include Downtown Los Angeles, Silver Lake and Hollywood.

Since it's such a large and populated city, there are many major sports teams that can be found playing within the Los Angeles area. For instance, the Los Angeles Dodgers Major League Baseball team, as well as the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers NBA basketball teams can all be found playing in Los Angeles, among many other L.A.-based teams.
