Overview

Mykonos (also known as Chora) is one of the Greek islands, and is an extremely popular vacation destination. It's particularly well known for its diverse nightlife and its international, sophisticated character. Many international celebrities own summer homes in Mykonos and are sometimes seen walking around town or lounging at one of the island's sandy beaches.

Destinations
Mykonos is often included on European cruise itineraries.

Cruise Lines Departing Here

Mykonos is not a cruise departure port.

Currency
The official currency is the Euro. ATM machines are available, but make sure you use one that works with the card you're using. ATM machines will usually give you a better exchange rate than a bank or hotel. Using a credit card is a great way to avoid having to exchange currency.

Language
The official language of Greece is Greek. However, you'll find many people fluent in English (especially in the tourist areas).

Tourist Attractions
Many cruisers end up taking a shuttle into town and just walk around the narrow streets of Mykonos, to explore the island and eat, drink and/or shop. A lot of people end up at one of the beautiful, usually crowded, beaches.

The nightlife in Mykonos is world famous. As such, there are many clubs and beach bars throughout the island. Some of the most well known beach bars in Mykonos are Paradise, Super Paradise and Paranga. In addition to that, Mykonos is also known as being a gay-friendly resort area. In fact, there are many gay clubs on the island.

The windmills in Mykonos are one of the most recognized landmarks of the island, as some of them date back to the 16th century.

Little Venice is an area of the island with white-washed buildings that were built right on the edge of the ocean, with balconies that hang over the Mediterranean.

Petros the Pelican is the official mascot of the island of Mykonos, and has been for over 50 years.

Delos is one of Greece's most famous archeological sites. It is an island located off the coast of Mykonos. The entire island has been classified as a national museum.

Port Location
Mykonos does not have a cruise terminal. Ships anchor offshore and load their passengers onto tenders that take them to the island. Many of the cruise lines offer their passengers a free shuttle bus into town. Taxis are also available.
