Overview

George Town is the capital of the Cayman Islands, located on the island of Grand Cayman in the British West Indies. George Town is the financial center of the Cayman Islands, with over 600 banks located within it. Grand Cayman is particularly popular for its shopping, snorkeling and scuba diving.

Grand Cayman is the largest of the three Cayman Islands and is located in the Western Caribbean. It's a great year-round type of tourist destination.

Destinations
George Town is included on several Western Caribbean cruise itineraries.

Cruise Lines Departing Here

George Town is not a cruise departure port.

Currency
The official currency is the Cayman Dollar (KYD). ATM machines are available, but make sure you use one that works with the card you're using. ATM machines will usually give you a better exchange rate than a hotel. Using a credit card is a great way to avoid having to exchange currency.

Language
The official language of the Cayman Islands is English, spoken by locals with a regional accent.

Tourist Attractions
Stingray City is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Grand Cayman. To get to this area you need to take a short boat ride from the North Sound of Grand Cayman. This area
consists of a few shallow sand bars where there are a ton of southern stingrays that visitors can interact with and feed.

Snorkeling and scuba diving are some of the most popular activities to take part in while visiting George Town. Seven Mile Beach is the most popular beach in Grand Cayman. Along this coral-sand beach you'll find many water sport options (available to rent), as well as several bars and restaurants.

Another popular thing to do while in George Town is shop, especially since there are duty free shopping venues available.

The Tortuga Rum Company has several locations in Grand Cayman, and their famous (and tasty) rum cakes are a nice treat to treat yourself to.

There is a turtle farm in the West Bay district of Grand Cayman. In this farm you can find Green Sea Turtles and several rare Grand Cayman Blue Iguanas. There is a fun petting area there where you can interact with the Green Sea Turtles.

The town of Hell is a tourist trap type of area, but is popular as a lot of tourists like to get one of the "I've Gone to Hell" postcards or shot glasses.

Port Location
At this particular cruise port all cruise ships must tender. This means that you must board tender boats and be transported from the ship to the shore, which is located right in downtown George Town.
