Overview Freeport is a city located on the island of Grand Bahama, a part of the Bahamas. It's the second most populous city in the Bahamas, after Nassau. The most popular area near Freeport among tourists is the suburb of Lucaya, a popular spring break destination that's located right along the ocean. Lucaya's main attraction is the Our Lucaya resort area, managed by Starwood Hotels.
The Freeport area itself doesn't really offer much for tourists, very much as a result of the extensive damage caused by Hurricane Frances in 2004 and then again in 2005 by Hurricane Wilma. That's why Lucaya has become so popular.
Because of the fact that the Freeport Harbour is accessible to the largest cruise ships in the world, Freeport is a popular port of call throughout the cruising industry. It's also a very popular maintenance location for the cruise lines, whenever work needs to be done on one of their ships.
Destinations Freeport is included on several Bahamas and Caribbean cruise itineraries.

Tourist Attractions Freeport's main shopping area is located in Lucaya. The most popular shopping area in Lucaya is the Port Lucaya Marketplace. The International Bazaar (in Freeport) used to be a major shopping area. However, after Hurricane Frances hit and devastated the area, most of the major vendors relocated to Lucaya.
Being Freeport's main tourist destination, Lucaya offers much more than just shopping. For instance, there is a casino (the Isle of Capri Casino, at Our Lucaya) and many beautiful beaches (with various water sport rentals available). Also in Lucaya is The Dolphin Experience (by UNEXSO), a popular place to "swim with the dolphins" and/or scuba dive. It's located within walking distance of the Sheraton and Westin.
One of the most popular beaches in the area is Lucaya Beach. It's located along the Our Lucaya Resort properties (the Westin Grand Bahama Island and the Sheraton Grand Bahama Island). Besides the beautiful beach, there are various bars and restaurants nearby.
Xanadu Beach is the closest major beach nearby the major Freeport hotels. This white-sand beach can get quite crowded. The nearby Xanadu Undersea Adventures is a popular place where you can learn how to scuba dive and view various wildlife.
Pinetree Stables is a horseback riding venue, featuring various riding trails along beautiful beaches. They offer a two hour ride along Grand Bahama Island, traveling through various places of interest.
Port Location The cruise port is located about a 25 minute drive from Lucaya, and is about a 10 minute drive from Freeport's downtown area.
