Carnival Corp. Signs Agreement for Two New Princess Ships

Carnival Corporation & plc, owners of the Princess Cruises brand has announced that they have signed a memorandum of agreement with Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri to build two new ships for Princess Cruises. These sister ships are expected to have a 3,600-passenger capacity, and should be around 139,000-tons each (which will make them the Princess Cruiseslargest Princess cruise ships ever). Princess plans to debut one ship in 2013, followed by the second in 2014. These ships will have a total cost of around euro 155,000 per lower berth, which comes to a little over $762,500,000 per ship based on the current exchange rates to U.S. Dollars.

The agreement is subject to the signing of a definitive contract, financing and other closing conditions. This means that the building of these ships is not definite yet. However, it is a major move for Carnival Corporation & plc, as they have not been ordering new ships to be built for some time now. Additional details concerning these yet-to-be-named ships will be released at a later date.
