Carnival Takes Delivery of Carnival Dream

Carnival Cruise Lines has taken delivery of the brand new Carnival Dream, the largest ship ever in its fleet. This 130,000-ton vessel was handed over to Carnival today by its builders at the Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy. This 3,646-passenger vessel is now headed over to Rome (via Civitavecchia), Italy for its inaugural cruise, a 12-day Carnival DreamGrand Mediterranean voyage departing on September 21, 2009. After a few cruises in Europe the ship will then head over to New York City where it will do a special two-day cruise and a couple of 8-day Caribbean cruises. Eventually, in December, Carnival Dream will arrive in Port Canaveral, Florida, where it will begin doing 7-day Caribbean cruises year round from.

"With some truly unique spaces and amazing entertainment options, Carnival Dream is dramatically different from any other ship we've introduced and ushers in an exciting new era in "Fun Ship" cruising," said Gerry Cahill, Carnival's president and CEO. "Value is more important than ever and the Carnival Dream - with its unique public spaces and exciting on-board innovations - provides the type of quality, affordable vacation experiences that today’s consumers are seeking," he added.

Among the innovations that are available to guests onboard Carnival Dream are Ocean Plaza, a indoor/outdoor cafe and live music venue; The Lanai, an outdoor area with a wrap-around promenade and whirlpools that are suspended over the ship's side; new accommodation categories, including cove balcony cabins; a huge Carnival WaterWorks aqua park, with the largest water slide at sea; and a 23,750-square foot Cloud 9 Spa, the largest in Carnival's fleet.

Carnival Dream, with an interior that was designed by Carnival's renowned interior architect Joe Farcus, is the 23rd ship in the Carnival Cruise Lines fleet, the largest fleet of consumer cruise ships in the world. A sister ship to Carnival Dream, Carnival Magic, (also being built by Fincantieri in Italy) is expected to be delivered to Carnival in June of 2011.
