Following the moves of many other cruise lines, including Royal Caribbean (which is also owned by Celebrity's parent-company Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.), Celebrity Cruises announced today that they will be featuring a new dining option onboard their ships. This new dining option, called Celebrity Select Dining will be a flexible dining option whereby you can decide what time you'd like to dine in the main dining room during each night of your cruise.
"Celebrity Select Dining gives our guests the flexibility to spend their days any way they like," said Jacques Van Staden, Vice President of Culinary Operations, Celebrity Cruises. "Whether they wish to enjoy more time in a specific port of call one day and dine later that evening than another, or whether they wish to keep a traditional set dining time, they will receive the same amazing service and enjoy the same menu. It's all about our guests, and it's all about choice."
A major plus that Celebrity is including with this new dining program is the ability for their customers to pre-reserve a specific dining time for each night of their cruise prior to getting on the ship. Guests will be able to pre-reserve their dining times (between 6:00 pm and 9:30 pm) up to four days prior to their cruise's departure on Celebrity's web site. This is an industry first, as no other cruise line currently offers pre-cruise dining reservations.
Similar to the My Time Dining program of Royal Caribbean, guests that select Celebrity Select Dining must pre-pay their gratuities. If after boarding their cruise guests would like to switch from Celebrity's Traditional (assigned) dining to Celebrity Select Dining, they can do so within 24 hours of the start of the cruise (as long as space is still available).
Guests sailing on the September 26, 2009 sailing of Celebrity Equinox will be on the first Celebrity cruise to feature this new program. The only Celebrity cruise ship that will not feature this program is Celebrity Xpedition, Celebrity's Galapagos Island mega-yacht. The following is a summary of the first sailing that Celebrity Select Dining will be available for each of Celebrity's ships:
• Celebrity Solstice - January 10, 2010 sailing
• Celebrity Constellation - January 17, 2010 sailing
• Celebrity Century - January 23, 2010 sailing
• Celebrity Millennium - February 1, 2010 sailing
• Celebrity Summit - February 13, 2010 sailing
• Celebrity Mercury - February 15, 2010 sailing

Guests can visit Celebrity Select Dining for more information about this exciting new dining program. Please be aware that only groups of 20 guests or less can be seated together as part of this program, and this program is subject to availability (which means that you should definitely reserve it as soon as you know that you want it).
