Question about Guarantee

I understand the whole idea of guarantee type rooms on cruises, but I don't understand how certain guarantee upgrades are considered upgrades. For example, I recently took a cruise and was "upgraded" to a room that was on a lower level of the ship, and the same size...just doesn't make sense to me really. Oh well, I had a good cruise and love Princess but just wanted to vent.

Question about the room you were upgraded to: was it a oceanview instead of an inside or a balcony instead of an oceanview? Or maybe an unobstructed oceanview instead of an onbstructed oceanview? Those are all reasons that you can be upgraded and end up on a lower deck of the ship (depending on that ship).
